Joanna Chrys

My current artistic practice in mixed media is influenced from my background in weaving and textiles. Transcending into abstract painting I create highly textured surfaces with an Acrylic medium. I incorporate a multi-layered dotting technique with an autonomous process to create intricate patterns.

Born in New York to a family of artists Joanna gravitated towards Weaving and Painting, the same as her parents.

In 2003 Joanna moved to Athens, Greece, with a background in textiles. There Joanna taught adult classes in silk painting, marbling and tie-dye. While preparing a new class on printing on silks Joanna used paper to experiment with Acrylic paints, falling in love with the texture and brush strokes.
